Ministry of Oil Signs Contract of Implementing 3D Seismic Survey for Al-Qayarah Field with the Angolan Sonangol Company

Under the auspices of the Deputy Prime Minister for Energy Affairs and Minister of Oil, Mr. Hayan Abdul Ghani, a contract of implementing the 3D seismic survey for Al-Qayarah field within Ninawa Governorate was signed in Al-Aqsa Hall at the Ministry’s headquarters with the Angolan Sonangol company in the presence of the Deputy of Oil Ministry for Upstream Affairs, Mr. Basim M. Khudhair,  and the Director General of  Oil Exploration Company, Dr. Osama R. Hussein.

The Deputy of Oil Ministry for Upstream Affairs said: “On behalf of the Deputy Prime Minister for Energy Affairs and the Minister of Oil, today, we attended the signing of a contract for implementing a 3D seismic survey by Oil Exploration Company and the operator, the Angolan Sonangol Company, in Al- Qayarah field”. He added, “The implementation of this contract achieves the strategic vision for oil sector by involving national companies in implementation of oil projects in keeping with future plans. We thank Sonangol for referring this contract to Oil Exploration Company, and we are confident that the contract will be implemented in accordance with international standards in time. I wish success for Sonangol in developing Al-Qayarah field and OEC in implementing the project with national effort in time”.

For his part, the Director General of Oil Exploration Company, Dr. Osama R. Hussein, expressed his happiness with signing the contract, saying: “With God’s help, a contract for implementing the 3D seismic survey of Al-Qayarah Field was signed between OEC and the Angolan Sonangol Company. This contract will be implemented with 100% national staff, in an area of ​​135 km2 for North Oil Company. indicating that the project has a huge hydrocarbon yield, in addition to employing 350 national workers in the areas surrounding the project”.

“We are serious about implementing this program despite the challenges represented by the complex topography of the region, the spread of oil pipelines and surface facilities, as well as the presence of local residents” he said. “Al-  Qayarah Field is one of the most important fields in Ninawa Governorate, and has promising hydrocarbon potential. The 3D seismic surveys will be conducted in accordance with this contract to explore the quantities of oil and gas present in it, which will hopefully supply refineries with large quantities of crude oil.” he went on.

 

on his part, the Director of Sonangol Company, Mr. Jonathan H. Royd, expressed his happiness with signing this contract with Oil Exploration Company, describing the event as “an important stage for the recovery of the region and creating of new job opportunities for its local residents”.

He stressed that his company is committed to implementing the contract and developing Al- Qayarah field, using the expertise of  Oil Exploration Company.
