Evaluation Geology Department: The final line of exploration operations in oil and gas industry..
The Geology and Geophysics Division is a leading division in the field of preparing exploratory studies that have always probe the depths of the earth in searching for oil and gas reservoirs. It has provided hundreds of studies and research, to highlight on the departments of this important division in Oil Exploration Company, we met with the Manager of the Division, Mr. Ali H. Hajouj, who said: “The Division is keen to maximize hydrocarbon reserves (gas and oil) through national effort operations (drilling exploratory and evaluation wells) in undeveloped fields, blocks, structures, unexcavated stratigraphic phenomena, unexplored formations, and adding hydrocarbon reserves to the depleted reserves of undeveloped explored and productive fields (Green Field), and identifying areas with promising hydrocarbon potentials by preparing a plan for 2D seismic surveys of geological structures and 3D exploratory blocks for oil and gas fields.
The Division consists of two important departments: the Evaluation Geology Department and the Exploratory Studies Department, which work together to explore new reservoirs of oil and natural gas.
The tasks of the department with its various sections are preparing evaluation geological studies for oil and gas fields aiming to build a 3D reservoir geological model, calculate the hydrocarbon reservoir, increasing the reserve, determining the locations of the evaluation wells, and clarifying the stratigraphic and reservoir relationships for field architecture (oil and gas), in preparation for making the decision to transfer the field from the evaluation phase to the development and production phase.
It is necessary to talk about the structure of the department, which consists of three sections:
- Reservoir Geology Section.
- Petrophysical Analyses Section.
- Prohibitions of Exploratory and Evaluation Areas Lands Section.
Reservoir Geology Section: This section works on building a static reservoir geological model using the Petrel program, and calculate the proven, potential, and possible hydrocarbon reserve, as well as the foreseeable reserve. This unit uses the (Petrel) program.
- Petrophysical Analyses Section: This section works on interpreting and using the well log data, core analyses, tests and the drilling mud record to prepare the interpreted log record and reservoir characterization to determine the depths of the presence of conventional and unconventional hydrocarbons, and groundwater and reservoir reservoirs using the petrophysical application units of the (GeoFrame) program as well as the (Techlog) program.
It also follows up the evaluation and development plans for the national effort fields and the fields developed within the contracts of licensing rounds, and the Section of Prohibitions of Exploratory and Evaluation Areas Lands that it is concerned with issuing approvals for establishing public and private sectors projects in a way that ensures the preservation of sufficient land areas to explore and evaluate the promising underground oil traps.
